Would you rather be accurate or precise? What’s the difference? Let’s play a game of Hoopla (or Ring Toss) to find out!

What you'll need

• a foam board
• six plastic rings from milk bottle lids
• some strong sewing pins
• a printed copy of the target

What to do

Pin the target to the foam board and stick pins into the dots. Lean the foam board against a wall and throw the milk bottle rings, so they hook onto the pins.

How'd it go?

• If the rings were grouped together, but on the edge of the target, you were precise in getting the same result each time, but you weren’t accurate in hitting the central target.
• If the rings were grouped together at the centre of the target, you were both accurate and precise.
• If the rings were spread across the target, you weren’t accurate OR precise.

Would you be accurate or precise if the rings hit the centre AND the edge of the target?

Once you’ve finished playing the game, don’t forget to cut the milk bottle rings to reduce the risk of hurting our wildlife.
